Design Ideas for Ballet Theme
Artist's rendering of a room with the Ballet theme.Stimulation: The Russian Ballet is very dramatic and forceful, the French Ballet very elegant and light so your child's personality and preferences come into play here. She (or he) will most probably already have shown an interest in dance, may even have been to some performances and may wish to choose a particular ballet, like Swan Lake or the Nutcracker Suite. This of course makes your decisions easier, but you could decide to create a simpler ambiance. Color Schemes: Infant: Pastel tones of pink, blue, yellow, green, cream and white. Candy colors, slighter deeper yellows, pinks, blues, greens and cream and white. Child:Primary colors, red, blue, yellow and green and white Teen: For the Russian Ballet.Deeper, more intense colors, purples, burgundies, lapis lazuli blue, gold, silver and white For the French Ballet, shocking pink and lighter shades of pink and yellow, cream, white and dove grey. Comforting and Reassuring: The dreamlike sequences of many ballet productions and storylines make for a very soft romantic mood. A ballerina doll is an inspiring and very sweet companion. She can be an ordinary doll which you have dressed in a tutu. Feng Shui: Dependant upon the theme of the ballet, e.g. Swan Lake, which is by nature a water theme which needs to be balanced with wood and metal or fire. Wooden furniture or a beautiful mural will provide wood (floor boards); an iron bedstead and wall sconces will provide the metal and fire. Budget vs Time and Talent: A tall wall mirror and a practice bar is an absolute must and if at all possible a plain hardwood floor. The mural on a wall unbroken by doors or windows, is going to provide drama, tremendous style and poise to set the mood. Degas, here we come. Based on the tones of the mural, the color scheme could for example be warm grays, pink and soft warm white. Palest grey walls with a shaft of pink and palest yellow light falling in a pool near the floor. If you must have a carpet use dove grey. For images and/or props use ballerinas, swans, ballet shoes, the backdrop or set from a favorite ballet, masks, candles in wrought iron sconces, silks, satins, lace for curtains and swags. Create a delicate four poster bed effect using curtain rods and rings or make a 2 x 4 inch wooden frame the same dimensions as the bed to hang a fabric pelmet (which will also cover the frame), then using large rings fixed to the frame, hang fabric from the corners (inside the pelmet) to the foot of the bed. Decorate with garlands of pink and white silk roses Curtains at the windows will need to be of a different, heavier fabric, but well co-ordinated. They could imitate stage curtains, floor to ceiling and tied back with matching or gold cord. |
